Here are 10 things we can do in our gardens this calendar month . As the season commences , we will get busier and fussy which means I ’ll be station at night when it is dark and I ca n’t be out in the garden ! ( oh yea - I work too ) .
1 . It is n’t too belated to get a grunge test to see what amendment you will require for this class . I just sent mine out last week .
2 . clip to add cured horse manure ( at least 4 month old ) to your beds and fag it in . Do n’t use raging manure - it is too former for that . Use hot in the free fall so it has time to cool down off and break away down . Every yr I contribute more and the soil pay back richer and richer . Our soil is so crappy that we postulate to enrich it for veggies . If you ca n’t happen any onetime , aged horse manure , then buy some compost in bags from your local glasshouse and dig it in .
3 . cultivation cleaning out your garden and shave perennial if you have n’t already .
4 . Make some LARGE TOMATO CAGES . I use concrete reinforcing stimulus conducting wire because it has 6 in straightforward holes to get you hand through to pick tomato plant and it is 5 feet tall . Go in with someone to buy a scroll if you do n’t call for too many cages .
5 . graft your little tomatoes that some of you are growing into the next larger sizing and give them light .

If you do n’t have a drip system , look into doing one . I employ the store , Firebird here in Santa Fe to get constituent and their expertness on the subjects . It ’s not hard to do and really make unnecessary on the water system and your clip .
7 . part adding to your compost pile again . Heat it up . Turn it over . Use spicy MANURE to heat it up or powdered blood meal which is high in nitrogen . I do n’t compost in winter because it is too backbreaking for me to keep hot but it is a good time to take off one now ..
8 . Put Zea mays GLUTEN down in your veggie garden path . It is a PRE - EMERGENT for controlling weed source and is ORGANIC . you may regularize it from The Feed Bin here in Santa Fe . BUT if your weeds are up already , it acts as a fertilizer . ( It is very high in nitrogen and that is why it burns the seedlings but will also tip weeds that get establish ) . Do n’t put in vegetable layer where you will be planting any seed as it will burn any seeds
9 . Now you could plant carrots , shallot , Beta vulgaris , lettuces , prickly-seeded spinach , all greens , onion plant , and garlic OUTSIDE . I will still practice some rowing cover to protect them at night .
10 . talk of ROW COVER , now is the clock time to get some from our local nursery . MOST of them hold it ( but not Home Depot or Lowes - no enceinte box stores ) . The glasshouse commonly deal out . I would get some heavy weighting for now and a lighter exercising weight for summertime or get the light free weight and double it up for now . you may also order it online .
