Landscape architectRaymond Jungleswas tell “ the sky ’s the limit ” — literally — when commission by artistic production collector and philanthropist Ella Fontanals - Cisneros to plan her secret rooftop garden , 34 stories above Coconut Grove and Sailboat Bay , with panoramic views of the Miami cityscape . Fontanals - Cisneros wanted an outdoor kitchen off the dining area that would immix in discreetly with the cubic decimeter - shaped rooftop ’s other live space . Jungles custom - design the kitchen , separating it from the rest of the garden with a paries of ipe Sir Henry Wood slats . Q : What was your client ’s objective ?

A : Ella wanted a rooftop garden and kitchen commodious for hold small and large groups , and yet she need to bide affiliated to her indoor kitchen . The space was to be used for secret company , family gatherings , lounging and diversion .

Q : What are the kitchen ’s chief features ?

A : A barbeque domain , Kohlerappliances , ice maker , icebox and a stainless - blade food elevator that join the space to the indoor kitchen .

Q : Were there any additional elements that you customise or retrofitted to work for this outside - kitchen pattern ?

A : The intact kitchen was custom - designed , including a seclusion screen that can open and close around the dining area for easy pass - through . There is a retractable awning over the dining area for shade and waterproofing .

Q : Was the kitchen a part of the garden ’s original master plan ?

A : Yes , the placement and design of the kitchen helped delimit the entire space . The main kitchen was on a lower floor , so the dumbwaiter needed to be in the intention of the rooftop garden kitchen . Transparent screen enable people in the kitchen to set intellectual nourishment without interfering with the people dining .
