In former 2021 , my kinsfolk was thinking about gravel some pet chickens for eggs . Every weekend , we would go to farm - supply stores for supply . We even had a tradition coop built by a local builder . In April , we catch our firstRhode Island Redhens : Phoenix , Joe , Eater , Daisy , Big Bird , Karen , Popcorn , Angela , Suni and Jeffrey . The breeder say they were roughly 2 years old , but we believed they were older .
These biddy were the sweetest birds I had ever met . They would hear me coming alfresco and right away start “ peach . ” I spent hr hang out with them , taking care of them in the morning and dark and daydreaming about them during school ( especially during math ! ) .
However , most pass away within a year or two . We currently only have two leave : Big Bird ( more on her by and by ) and Daisy .

Chicken Math
My brother , Carson , and I kept researching new volaille breed and really wanted a rooster and some more hens . We found a ma’am sell twoBlack Australorphens , one Rhode Island Red biddy , one Easter Egger biddy and an Easter Egger cock . She was moving and did n’t desire to ravish them .
By that fall , it was metre for more chicken ! Ipurchased some doll at a farm - supply store with my own money : two Speckled Sussex , whichis one of my favorite breeds ; four Sapphire Gems ; and two brown Easter Eggers . The doll lived in the back of our buck house trailer with a heat lamp in a fictile pocket billiards lined with bedding .
Every meter I buy chickens , I get more creative with breeds . This round of skirt was one of the sweetest but saucy . This was my first time with wench , and I really discovered my love life for these petite little creatures . I just loved checking on them , hanging out with them and hearing their little peeps .

Substitute Teachers
Ever since 2018 , Carson and I have been postulate in 4 - H , and we ’re just bulge out to show chicken . One of our club loss leader asked us if we would like to add a few baby chick to their order . I excitedly started researching the full breeds to show and make up one’s mind on a Golden LacedWyandotte . ( To anybody who want sweet shuttlecock to begin your flock , take these ! They ’re the nicest bird and my dearie ! ) and aPlymouth Rock . Carson opt aWhite Leghornand a BuffOrpington . ( These two breed are also super honeyed , and I altogether recommend them as well ! )
Well , the hatchery messed up the order and did n’t send a Plymouth Rock but instead post two Black Stars . Although I was sorry and frustrated , I am now thankful that they messed up the order because my twoBlack Starsare such outgoing birds . Every time I take the air into the coop , they run up and greet me .
In former August , Carson and I adopt our hoot to the fair . I picture my Golden Laced Wyandotte , Greta , in the showmanship course and the frier class . She behaved very well and placed third . I also show my SpeckledSussexhen , Chika , come out fourthly .

My birds stayed the calendar week at the fair . They loved the extra attention , but by the end , they were quick to get back home and see their friends .

Adding Ducks
In early June , we decided to add together some duck to our flock and settle for four Muscovy . Muscovy duck are the snug ducks to a wimp and get along great .
They are very leftover because they do n’t quack . Instead , they hiss and growling , and scarlet bumps grow all over their heading . They sometimes frighten the chickens , but they just really desire to be friends .
Social Studies
One of my original crybaby , Big Bird , keep on getting hector . Her coop mates would even rend her feathers out . I love I would eventually have to do something .
One day when I get home from shoal , Big Bird was sitting in the nesting corner with her head gushing blood and her shape prove . My mamma and I took her into our cellar and put her in a cat carrier . I visited her every Clarence Shepard Day Jr. and amount to realize there was something special about this pocket-size , hopeless , old biddy .
We soon move her into our shed into a dog kennel , where she loves spending prison term . Her oral sex healed perfectly , which I am very thankful for . She also sometimes hangs out with her bestie , Daisy . Big Bird is the first chicken that I really bonded with . I hope she has a placid hereafter and an easy rest of her aliveness .

Ilove my chicken more and more every Clarence Day . This spring , I contrive on getting more chicks : a BuffCochin(this will be my first Cochin and I ’m thrill ! ) , a ruby laced Blue Wyandotte and a Silver SpangledHamburg .
For any new chicken owners , my advice is to commence with older poulet . They are way less maintenance than chicks , they bring out eggs right out , and they ’re extremely sweet .
