I try out sweet potatoes this time of year . I was n’t certain if we would have enough clock time for them to get big . Plus they like really blistering , damp climate like in the South where they are grow a destiny . Sweet white potato take between 90 - 170 day to age . Yikes ! Many varieties would not mature here in our short season . I ended up getting a variety calledGeorgia Jettbecause it has one of the shortest grow times—90 day to glean . It has orangish flesh .
I got a dozen fresh potato mooring in bounce . They arrived in the postal service too early to plant . And they were not in good shape when they came . I had to keep them alive in the family till the weather and soil warm up in previous spring . At first , I put a damp paper towel in a shaping bag with the solecism to keep moist . I recede 7 of them . Then I finally had to put them in a glass of water where they started producing root word . As it got close to planting prison term , I put them outside in a bucket with water . I planted them in June in Wall of Waters as the nights were still cool , We had a late snow on May 20 . Five survive .

Well it turns out those five slips filled and overflowed the 10′ x 4′ raised bottom . They are wanton to grow and not much get to them , plus no bugs . They just need water and high temperature , which we got mass of warmth this summertime . They are beautiful plants . I ’m not sure where I coulda put the other 7 as they are rearing growers and need blank . Plus I did n’t jazz they are related to morning resplendence and have a beautiful flower which is smaller than a forenoon resplendence flower . Another bonus !

They have now been harvested and many of them are very big . They are curing inside the mansion because they must be kept tender during the bring around process . Curing is a hardening off unconscious process for veggies like squash vine and garlic to temper the skins and in this font to sweeten them as well . When you savvy them out , do n’t wash off the dirt while they are curing . They have to bring around for 10 day in a warm quad . After that , you’re able to softly sweep off the dirt but still do n’t wash them till just before utilization . Store them in a dark space like regular potato . I do n’t know about the flavor yet as they are still cure inside the house but they look good . I ’ll permit you know when I use up some of them about the flavor .
