Jane’s Illinois Garden

Growth so far this year

Jane is share her northerly Illinois garden with us today .

This year the weather has been golden for my plants to brandish , with periodical rain and warmth despite the windy condition in northerly Illinois .

The show started with passel ofbulbsas the garden waken up . you may see the weigela(Weigelaflorida , Zones 5–9 ) is still not flick out in the background .

My blossoming almond(Prunusglandulosa , Zones 4–8 ) was pretty this year . And behind it the weigela is now alert and place out foliage , though it ’s still not in flower yet .

Then come theirisshow . These sure-enough - fashioned bearded irises(Irishybrid , bearded grouping , Zones 3–8 ) are vigorous and beautiful .

More fleur-de-lis occupy out this bed , with the smaller - floweredSiberian irises(Iris siberica , Zones 4–8 ) unite the beardeds . A clump of salvia(Salvianemorosa , Zones 4–8 ) echoes thepurple colorsof the irises .

presently the back seam set out to fill in with nicety plants , includinghosta(Hostahybrids , Zones 4–9),bleeding heart(Digitalis spectabilis , Zones 2–8 ) , astilbe(Astilbespecies , zone 4–9 ) , and Japanese painted ferns(Athyriumniponicum var . pictum , Zones 5–8 ) . And my ‘ Sun King ’ aralia(Aralia cordata‘Sun King ’ , Zones 3–9 ) takes center stagecoach .

Now the goatsbeard(Aruncusdioicus , Zones 4–8 ) is showing off along our deck . It has grown quite large in the seven years it ’s been there .
