March at Last!
It may not be quite springtime yet but it for certain feels like it today . The sun is shining and the light has that sure aglow timber . Birds are singing and my wintertime garden is alive with buzzing bee . This time of the year brings anembarras de choixfor Six on Saturday .
As it feels like outpouring I will take off with some blossom . The Japanese Apricot , Prunus mume‘Beni - chidori ’ is a must for the wintertime garden as the bright pinkish flowers are perfumed and begin flowering in February and they are still looking wonderful .
And now we have another cherry in flush and that is the March - floweringPrunus‘Kursar ’ . I have n’t generate enough way for lots of cherry tree trees which is sad as I love them but this one is quite little and compact .

Prunus mume‘Beni -chidori’
Many people dislike flowering currant for its strong smell but I quite like it and always bring twigs of it to keep an eye on the bud stretch out inside . But if you detest the smell then the evergreenRibes laurifoliumis one to look out for as the pale unripened flowers are sweetly scented and it blooms much earlier thanRibes sanguineum . It is full if it has something to grow up as it tend to flop a number without support .
When the sunlight shines as it is doing today the niggling metal money crocus open up their flowers and make a terrific show and they are abuzz with bees . The purpleCrocus ‘ Yalta ’ is pretty even when the flowers are closed because the outside of the petal are silvery purple .
I showed my first yellowCrocus‘Romance ’ a couple of week ago and now the whole clump is brightening up the garden .

Prunus mume‘Beni -chidori’
The littleCrocus sieberi ‘ Tricolor ’ is special because it is blue white and orange all on one bloom ; when the efflorescence open they wait as if they contain little poach eggs . This little smasher spreads into carpeting .
Snowdrops have been giving delight for calendar week now and the little pixie hood ofLeucojum vernumare often disoriented with them . But if you calculate at them closely they are quite typical . Each petal is tip with green or in the pillow slip ofLeucojum vernumvar.carpathicumthey are tilt with yellow . The one in my picture is a twin - manoeuvre one calledLeucojum vernumvar.wagneri .
The little wintertime florescence iris come in gem - like colouring and they bug out flowering in February . I grow a few dissimilar ones each year as the corm of thereticulatahybrids split up into lots of separate pieces and fare up sparsely the following year . Iris histrioidesand its hybrid are not so prone to this . Iris‘Katherine ’s Gold ’ is ahistrioideshybrid and is quite reliable .

Prunus‘Kursar’
Iris reticulata‘Harmony ’ is readily available and I like it because it is such a gorgeous shade of blue and it comes back each year .
I have plenty of piffling irises in stool clear up up the greenhouse . I popped this littleIris reticulata‘Blue Note ’ into a pot with a skimmia . It has adorable dark velvety tips to its petals .
As it is St. David ’s Day today I ca n’t eat up without mentioning Narcissus pseudonarcissus . A couple of weeks ago I show you my pot of white ring - petticoat daffodil , Narcissus bulbocodium‘Mary Poppins ’ . Today I have a pot of creamy yellowNarcissus bulbocodium‘Arctic bell ’ which is delighting me just as much .

Ribes laurifolium
And to finish we have a bog - standard daffodil which I grow because it is theorise to be an other one . In a former gardenNarcissus‘Rijnveld ’s Early Sensation ’ used to bloom in late January so I am a snatch sick of to see it bloom in March . But never listen it is good to see daffodils coming ‘ before the sup dares ’ quick to ‘ take the winds of March with ravisher ’ as the Bard would say .
So that is my six for today . And for those of you who say I ca n’t count and that it is more than six , I will list them . Prunus , Ribes , Crocus , Leucojum , Iris , Narcissus . See that is six . But I ca n’t see any way that I can fall away in some Hellebores without bow the rules even further , so I will have to save them for another day . disgrace .
Jim at Garden Ruminationshosts ‘ Six on Saturday ’ as usual and today he is showing us some of his fabulous camellias . Do go and bet .
