We’re still singing the blues in Kathy’s beautiful garden
Hey GPODers ! In case you omit yesterday ’s post , we ’re swimming in a ocean of blue , thanks to the many early bloomers from Kathy Schreurs ’s marvellous garden in Iowa .
It ’s been an extremely long outflow by our northwestern Iowa banner : I spotted my first crocus mid - March , and other harbingers of fountain ( Virginia bluebells , lungworts , brunneras , and forget - me - nots ) were just blossom their last on Memorial Day . The long charm of coolheaded , often showery weather depart by uninterrupted by March blizzard or May heatwaves . There ’s been time to slow down and delight the color of spring . I ’ve noticed that while roses are red and violets are blue , several other former arrival are blue(ish ) too .
I planted a few forget - me - nots(Myosotisscorpioides , Zones 3–8)the spring my don drop dead away , and they spread out cheer every May .

Where hasamsoniabeen all my horticulture biography ? I only “ key out ” it when the possessor of my favorite baby’s room encouraged me to try it a few year ago . We now have 10 of them . I call back this is ‘ Storm Cloud’(Amsonia tabernaemontana‘Storm Cloud ’ , Zones 4–9 ) . Once they emerge , they originate rapidly . The above exposure was on May 7 , and the below on May 19 .
gentle to understand why Kathy got hook on genus Amsonia . While this richness of blooms in spring is show stop , the foliage of this recurrent absolutely glows in the sunlight and its mounding habit gives it the same structural power as low - growing bush . If Kathy is right about the variety , she surely snagged a succeeder . ‘ tempest Cloud ’ is theProven Winners ® 2024 National Landscape Perennial of the Year .
The blues of spring must be almost over , since my fleur-de-lis is blooming(below ) , but I can count on the genus Funka to bring another time of year of ( quite dissimilar ) amobarbital sodium .

While give is ending , there are still plenty of places to spot shades of blue in the garden . At a quick glance , anyone would belike call this iris “ purple ’ , but it ’s never that simple with plants . A finale up of the flower petal relieves different ghost of violet , and even some breath of abstruse blueness .
And , as Kathy name above , the vary blue - green shades of hostas . This variety with massive , rippled leaves pops against the silveryfernsbehind .
When you have this grand form of blooms , bringing some garden color indoors is a must ! Can you distinguish some of the plants we ’ve seen from Kathy ’s garden in these beautiful bouquets ?
