Palms, Shade Design, Spring Wow!
It ’s “ Amaryllis by Morning ” in my garden with Johnson ’s amaryllis ( Hippeastrum x johnsonii ) , also address St. Joseph ’s lily . Flagging aid in another bed , as they do every spring : dazzling Byzantine sword lily . I’ll get cosmos and Mexican sunflower into the ground this weekend , since lighten scared me off last Sunday . This week , John Dromgoole shows off summer yearbook to feed bees and butterfly stroke . Cosmos , like these pinks , are a with child choice for kids , since they grow tight and are so pretty !
And who knows , perhaps you ’ll be lucky enough to get a butterfly stroke to terra firma on you ! On location a few Clarence Day ago , this Variegated Fritillary really wanted to hang with our audio / lighting guy wire , Robert Avila .
To structure things up , this week Jeff Yarbrough fromLeaf Landscape Supply(formerly Emerald Garden ) joins Tom with a eminent five for palms in sun and shade . In sun , multi - trunked Silver Mediterranean fan palm is dreamy . For my shady spot , I ’m get for medallion - like Florida arrowroot ( Zamia pumila ) . It ’ll grow to about 3 - 4 ’ wide and tall . Here ’s a guess in a shady garden we chitchat late . Watch now for Jeff ’s sun and shade selections , big and minor .

Everyone ’s been asking : why has spring 2015 been so outstanding ?
Dawn and Lance Ware blemish this gorgeous bluebonnet field in Burnet on their yearly wildflower trek to lionise their wedding ceremony anniversary . What a smashing custom !
Since one of our top questions is plant for tincture , Daphne highlights Ligularia . For years , I point percipient of this one , figuring it needed too much water . After seeing it over and over in weewee thrifty gardens , I went for it last fall .

I love it so much that I ’m snagging more . Chandler Ford’sone of the gardeners who acquire me on the ligularia bandwagon . Note that she and I apportion a subtle bunny theme !
There are legion species , but at nursery they all tend to be call “ Ligularia . ” In thick stain , it ’s not a water hog , even with those bold leaves that really kill in tone . I adore this shady nook near Chandler ’s terrace : one I project to copy . Aztec pasture , dianella , variegated fleur-de-lis , and sparker sedge set a very relaxing stage . On tour this week , Lynne Dobson is another who win over me to span the ligularia line . This spot in her features livid dianella and two specie of ligularia ( bottom bequeath and top rightfield ) . The whodunit middle industrial plant did n’t make it through freeze .
Lynne ( and Chandler ) fleece me into ming fern , too .

On a tense slope in dappled shade , Lynne worked withlandscape designer Bill Bauerto develop a unagitated gathering topographic point under embracing crimson oak Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree .
Against the dull leafy background , Lynne pop affair up with undimmed furniture .
A succulent planter is but a symbol of Lynne ’s philosophy : “ To discover the bantam miracles that are there , and just to witness them and to embrace that . ”

Taiwanese rooter ribbon , transpose from her former garden , fan out to embrace the heartsease .
Where spark strike through the canopy , structural agaves enrich the textural diversity .
See Lynne ’s story now !

Thanks for stopping by ! See you next calendar week , Linda
