In the past , all we ’ve seen of Pam Wittenberg ’s garden in Santa Rosa , California , is the wildlife that visits – and those picture show have been mythic ! ( We watched some hummingbirds farm up from ballock to young adult right before our eyesHEREandHERE ! For more critters from Pam ’s garden , clickHERE , HERE , HERE , andHERE ) But today we get a glimpse of her garden .
Pam says,“Seven year ago we move to a house with a creekside backyard that had been sack up to make mode for a lawn . The lawn resemble a putting common and contrasted sharply with the natural milieu . There were a few landscape plants to salvage : batch of tempestuous hemlock , and naturalized aroid and genus Vinca , which still provide greenery today . These are well controlled , but I proceed to battle the wandering Jew that colonized the creekbank long ago and has made its direction into some of my garden beds .
“ Over the years , I removed the lawn , rerouted sprinkler , added lots of mulch , and populated my garden with cast - offs , orphan , cuttings , cryptic - deduction - sick - and - dying nursery finds , and plants from Freecycle and Craigslist since I have little in the way of a horticulture budget other than my clip on my day off . Now the garden has a structure that complements the brook ( which runs all twelvemonth and becomes a call on the carpet torrent in the winter ! ) , and is dwelling house to plants with lots of memory of supporter and unknown who have made it a lush and relax place to pass my destitute time . ”Beautiful , Pam !
