Focusing on structure and form

Kat in Northumberland County , Ontario , divvy up some photograph and thoughts ongardening with childrenand embracingcolor in the gardenearlier , and today she ’s got a set of pic to partake on the theme of flesh in the garden .

For me , photographingthe garden is almost as significant an experience as working in it . I had a camera as a teenager , and I remember how careful I had to be about how many photograph I took , since development of each curlicue of film was a major investment relative to my allowance . What an stupefying difference now , to have a powerful digital tv camera in my pouch all the time , to experiment with light and angles freely , to capture along with every ikon the day and the time that the plant in the garden look this way , to follow the same structures through the time of year and to document the impermanent shapes for the instant they live . And my gardener education has been aid by plant identification apps , giving real - fourth dimension figure and descriptions to what I find in the yard and at the garden center . I love the convergence of scientific discipline and artistry in gardening , and photography is the good way for me to enjoy where they meet .

This columbine(Aquilegiahybrid , Zones 4–8 ) , stand at attention , had the most personality of the garden flower .

Baptisiahas been planted throughout my gardens ; if I have a signature plant life , this is it . The social organization switch dramatically through the season , from the former colorful steeple in outpouring , to the strong , shrublike growth in summertime , and finishing with the Halloween embodiment of melanize offset and pod in gloaming .

The dotty columbine ( Aquilegiacanadensis , Zones 3–8 ) is native to our area ; I care how its nod flower await like a dragon .

Peonies grow beautifully here , and mine came with the house , growing for 10 long before we got here . They are late flub , and I hold off for them thirstily , watching the neighbor ’ peonies burst unfastened first . Mine are late to the party but come super fancy and Brobdingnagian .

Last year I experiment with acquire moon flowers at the side of the deck . Now I ’m experiment withvines , with originate dawn glories from germ and hydrangea vines on my garden arch , and with saving the materialization of a transplanted clematis , almost lost in a fit of weeding . This forenoon glory(Ipomoeapurpurea , one-year ) withstand off blooming until fall and was one of the last flowers we had this year .

Our jumbo sunflowers(Helianthusannuus , annual)were hosts to a diverse insect population . I feel like this picture , consume from below , almost bear witness the weight of the flower and the cum . The stalks drooped presently after , and we beautify the back stump with the dried heads , leaving a feast for the local wildlife .

Winter in the garden , when the last shapes are those made of metallic element , for specific subprogram , and the evergreens and columniform grasses . I ’m counting down to next year already .
