I am thrilled to piece that the vegetable garden is in full planted ! I ’ve been chisel away at it for the preceding several calendar week , and yesterday I finally hammered in the last of thetomatostakes . Everything is coming along beautifully , and despite a few issue with slugs , even thepole beanslook good .

Ourlettucehas produced incredibly well this year , keeping us cubitus deep insaladsfor a few month now , and soon the first of the Swiss chard and beets will be quick to harvest . I ’ve already made a few cuts of one of my favorite crop : a stir - fry super acid mix from Renee ’s seeds . It ’s a assortment of baby kale , mustard greens , bok choi , chard and mizuna and is passing delicious when brazed in olive oil color or blended into aThai - vogue hustle - frydressed with coconut Milk River and curry paste .

Another favorite spring crop we ’ve been savor is ourstrawberries . One of my soon - to - be - tackled summertime projects is a complete overhaul of ourstrawberry bandage . It ’s been a few years since they ’ve been separated and replant , and the mend is full of ground Hedera helix , trefoil and lots of other grass . It ’s so invade that I revere the only way of life to “ fix ” it is to wholly cut into up the whole strawberry patch and separate out the hemangioma simplex plant by hand . I ’m considering moving them to another bed entirely so I can smother out any remaining weeds with a stocky layer ofmulchand finally get a handle on them .

I rise a mix of berries so transplant them to another bottom while restrain the sort freestanding will be difficult , if not impossible . I ’m thinking that in the longsighted running play , it does n’t really matter . A weed - free strawberry plot of ground is more important than a well - label one ! I also surmise that one of the reason we ’ve been having such an issue with biff this spring is because of all the weeds in the hemangioma simplex patch . I think that ’s where they are sheltering at night . Hopefully , by clean up the layer , some of the slugs will be direct pile to the compost quite a little !

In the vegetable garden , I ’ve been using an iron - phosphate - based slug bait , which I dust around the bean , broccoliandcabbageplants . I avoid using the chemical baits because those kind of sweetener are very toxicant to mammal and I never know when my dog is going to get into the garden . The atomic number 26 phosphate ones work just as well and are much safe to use . Plus , if I employ them , I do n’t have to waste any good beer on the slugs !
