The Lasagna Vegetable Beds in June.
The raise veg seam that I write apostabout earlier this twelvemonth are begin to look estimable . We have laid a tissue layer on the paths and laid crushed rock on them because they were appear a muckle and weed were maturate on them . So at last it all looks properly fetch up off . It was believably not a unspoiled thought to choose the blistering twenty-four hour period of the year to do the job but never mind we survived and it is attend good . I do n’t usually show photos of myself on this blog and I should n’t really show this one . I ’m not looking my good . But perhaps you could forgive me looking a shade dishevelled , as I said , it was a very spicy day , and I ’m believably wearing too many dress .
In the first bed there are courgette growing with perfumed corn and the next bed has asparagus . I am very activated about this as I have never grown asparagus before . The small central bed has strawberries . Some people are already eating their strawberries on web log that I read , but these are n’t ripe yet . I ’m revel that they are such goodish looking works though . I dig them up in the spring and they spent several week in a bucketful waitress for their new home . They looked very grim for themselves when they were first plant . The broad edible bean are ‘ Crimson flowered ’ . I have n’t tried these before so I am concerned to see how they will smack . They are for certain pretty . I usually originate far too many Solanum tuberosum and the Pianist is very fussy about which single he will cook . The one that collapse in the water are turn down . He likes firm waxy ones . It is plausibly a good thing that I could only grow as many as would fit in the box . But all the same I have grown three different form . ‘ Royal Kidney ’ , ‘ Charlotte ’ and ‘ Lady Christl ’ . Today I harvested the first I . They are ‘ Lady Christl ’ . I trust they will meet with the chef ’s favorable reception . In the first corner on the other side there are carrots , shallots and parsnip . The parsnips had seeded themselves in the vegetable garden so I transplanted them , they are already declamatory plant . Next there are salads . I have farm some lettuces and we have finished a row . There are mixed leave and projectile and mizuna as we like spicy leaves . I practice the leaves of the beetroots in salads and I will reap the beetroots when they are small . In the center growing up the wigwam I have Caranx crysos beans and borlotti beans . The small bottom opposite the strawberries has herbaceous plant in it and next to it there is a box with french beans and mange tout . French bean plant seem to be caviare to slugs and snail and I have lost quite a lot of my flora to the small beasts . It is quite a generator of satisfaction to put escargot plate on top of the bamboo cane ‘ pour encourager les autres ‘ and also to prevent me impaling my eyeball . These are n’t home grow snail , although the 1 here ought to be that size after gormandize on my produce . They came from a Gallic supermarket along with their former occupants in a Petroselinum crispum and garlic sauce . The last boxwood has baby spinach plant , rainbow chard and other brassicas . We have already started eat on the chard and the prickly-seeded spinach . The Pianist has named myalter ego , Chloris . She keeps change by reversal up in different parts of the garden . She joined us for dinner on the patio on Sunday , but I do n’t think she ’ll be invited again . The Pianist thinks she has a very disapproving look on her facial expression . He was sure that she was count how many glasses of wine-coloured he had . She was meant to have a smile on her face but somehow she finish up search United States Post Office - faced . I trust she will scare off the pigeons .

So cute ! Why do n’t people make more lady scarecrows ? I love seeing other people ’s veggie gardens … the blanket bean are so pretty . What amazes me is that you have all these thing grow at the same time . Where I inhabit in southerly California USA brassicas are a wintertime only craw and edible asparagus would be long gone even before the corn was planted . But I can tell by the netting you have the same problems such as bird and gnawer eating the vegetable . Such an interesting universe !
Your raised beds are perfectly awful and all your veggie is doing attractively in their fresh home ! bonk your old-hat dame , I ’m sure she appreciates her sit down , its tiring study keeping all the birds away !
Your vegetable garden looks jolly as well as productive , Chloris . Since the chef is special about what he cooks , perhaps he needs his own alter ego to monitor activity in that area . As Jane said , we ’re rather out of sync with your production docket , although I do have Zea mays and beans do on . Strawberries can remain in the ground all year here but lettuce and other salad greenness would electrocute in our summer heating system . My most exciting report is that it looks as though peradventure – just maybe – my red seedless grapes will mature on the vine this yr before the birds pig them ( even without a scarecrow ! ) .

Your garden is so gorgeous and so much sport ; I like the whimsy you introduce into the scarecrow .
